My three-month research visit at the University of Oxford
Visiting the NEUROSEC team at the University of Oxford
My three-month research visit at the University of Oxford has come to an end, and I wanted to take a moment to look back and say thank you.
I spent this time in the Department of Psychiatry, working with the Neuroscience, Ethics and Society (NEUROSEC) team and Dr. Kathryn Francis on a project about how people perceive and prioritize the moral status of non-human entities, building on my PhD research at the Universidad de Granada under Prof. Ivar Rodríguez Hannikainen (Moral Science Lab). I also had the chance to engage with the Uehiro Oxford Institute and the Philosophical Moral Psychology Lab, and presenting my work there pushed me to rethink and sharpen the direction of my research.
Beyond the research, I got to experience the academic life I had only imagined, formal dinners, walks through the University Parks, punting along the river, or sitting in on talks where people I’ve long admired presented their work just a few feet away.
Thank you to Kathryn and the whole NEUROSEC team, to Joanna Demaree-Cotton and everyone at the Philosophical Moral Psychology Lab for their generosity with their time.
These three months gave me far more than I expected, both professionally and personally. Heading back to Granada with new ideas, and collaborations I hope continue well beyond this visit.
